"The gate is always open — no question is too embarrassing."
Our story

Founded to fill a gap nobody else would

Est. 2019

Northgate Health Institute was founded in 2019 by a small group of health educators, researchers, and writers who kept noticing the same gap: an enormous amount of health information exists online, but almost none of it is written for the person who is too embarrassed to ask.

The name comes from the idea of a gate that is always open — a place where questions that feel too awkward, too private, or too shameful to ask a doctor, a partner, or a friend can finally get a straight, researched, judgment-free answer.

The founding team had backgrounds in health education, medical writing, and behavioral psychology. None were practicing clinicians — and that was intentional. They wanted to build something that felt like a knowledgeable friend rather than a clinical consultation.

Vision & mission

Why we exist

We produce plain-English health education on the topics people search for privately — because nobody should suffer alone simply because a health topic feels too embarrassing to discuss.

Our vision
"A world where no one suffers alone simply because a health topic feels too embarrassing to discuss."
Our mission

We produce plain-English health education guides on the topics people search for privately — conditions and concerns that carry unnecessary shame, that get brushed past in short appointments, or that simply aren't talked about openly enough.

Every guide is written to change something: to help a reader understand their situation more clearly, take a concrete next step, or simply feel less alone.

Three guiding principles

How we think about every guide we publish

01
No judgment

The person reading already feels vulnerable. Our tone is that of a knowledgeable, caring friend — not a clinician, not a lecturer. Every sentence is written with that person in mind.

02
Genuine usefulness

Every guide is built to change something — a clearer understanding, a concrete next step, or the confidence to finally have a conversation with a healthcare provider.

03
Honest boundaries

Our guides are education, not medical advice. We are explicit about this on every page, and we actively encourage readers to use our content to have better conversations with their own providers.

Our process

How our research works

Research and writing process

Every Northgate guide goes through a structured four-stage process before publication. No shortcuts. No anecdote passed off as evidence.

1
Topic mapping

We identify topics using search behavior analysis, community forums (Reddit, health Q&A sites), and reader submissions. The key filter: is this something people are clearly looking for but struggling to find quality information about?

2
Source gathering

Writers draw from peer-reviewed literature, NHS/WHO/CDC published guidance, established medical reference databases, and reputable health journalism. Sources are documented internally even when not cited in the final guide.

3
Plain-English translation

A dedicated editorial layer rewrites all clinical language into accessible prose. The internal test: would a stressed, embarrassed person reading this at midnight understand it — and feel better for having read it?

4
Sensitivity review

Every guide is reviewed specifically for tone before publication — checking that nothing reads as dismissive, shaming, or alarmist. Guides with mental health overlap receive additional care at this stage.

What we cover

The questions nobody asks out loud

Our guides cover the full range of health concerns that people carry quietly — from physical symptoms to behavioral health — all approached with the same care and rigor.

We chose these topics specifically because quality educational content is hard to find, and because the people affected deserve better than a five-minute GP appointment or an unreliable forum thread.

What you can always expect from us

Complete privacy

We do not share, sell, or disclose purchase data. Every download is delivered privately. What you read is your business alone — your purchase appears as a generic charge on your statement.

Kept up to date

Every guide carries a version number and review date. We update content when guidance or evidence changes — this is not a set-and-forget publishing operation.

Honest about our limits

We are educators, not clinicians. Every guide is clear about what it is and isn't, and actively points readers toward professional help where appropriate.

30-day full refund

If a guide isn't useful to you, email us within 30 days for a complete refund. No questions asked. You shouldn't pay for something that doesn't help you.

Find the guide that's right for you

Every guide is instant download, completely private, and backed by our 30-day refund guarantee. Written for the person who has been carrying this alone for too long.
